TITLE: Bus Monitor Part-time

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has demonstrated ability to work with children.
- Participates in and successfully completes training programs as specified by the Kentucky Department of Education and local district.
- Must meet the requirements for a criminal records check as specified by Kentucky State Law.

Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL:
To work as assigned on a daily basis to serve as a bus monitor.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE OF
1. Safe practices concerning school bus transportation.

6. Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
7. Observe health and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
ABILITY TO:
1. Maintain order and discipline among students while driving a school bus.
2. Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.
3. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
4. Understand and follow oral and written directions.
5. Meet schedules and time lines.
6. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Learn, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
8. Assist in loading and unloading handicapped children as necessary.
9. Assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Properly supervise passengers on the bus in accordance with transportation regulations, and with pupil personnel code of conduct.
2. Attend safety meetings and workshops as determined by the Assistant Superintendent.
3. Meet the training requirement set forth in State and district regulations.
4. Meet those responsibilities as set forth in the Board's Handbook for School Bus Drivers, State Board of Education regulations, applicable statutory laws, and directives of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
5. Perform other duties that may not be specifically covered in this general job description, as assigned by the Director of Transportation and/or his assistant and/or Building Principals.
6. Demonstrate a consistent and positive behavior toward students and patrons in order to foster positive public relations.
7. Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
8. Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
9. Provides written records of violations of the student code to the bus driver.
10. Collects and turns over to the school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.
11. Performs related duties as assigned such as cleaning, filing, or other assignments when not assigned a bus route or bus monitor position.
