CLASS TITLE: SPEECH THERAPIST

PRIMARY  FUNCTION: To help reduce or eliminate speech and language impairments that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program by:

BASIC REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the Board of Education and the School SBDM Council.

  1. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
  2. Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language impaired children.
  3. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, referring and identifying suspected speech and language impairments.
  4. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, fluency, voice, and language impairments.
  5. Provides hearing screenings for specified grade levels and referrals.
  6. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  7. Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members.
  8. Keeps ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
  9. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students.
  10. Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  1. Adheres to the professional code of ethics.
  2. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  3. Maintains a professional and appropriate appearance.
  4. Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  5. Is familiar with and incorporates the use of technology in daily tasks.
  6. Works the gate for two athletic events per year.
  7. Duties may include performance of health services, for which training will be provided.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

-Certificate For Teaching Exceptional Children__Communication Disorders

-Current license from the Kentucky Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and the American Speech-Hearing Association
